Residents of Bojiyare Centre in Wajir West Sub-County have received emergency water supplies from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) following a severe water shortage brought about by prolonged dry weather in the region. The humanitarian intervention was carried out on 5 February 2026 under the military’s Civil–Military Cooperation (CIMIC) programme, providing immediate relief to a community struggling with acute water scarcity.
The operation was launched after worsening drought conditions left many households without reliable access to safe water for domestic use. KDF personnel transported and distributed emergency water supplies to affected residents, helping ease the immediate burden while underscoring the growing humanitarian impacts of climate-induced water shortages in northern Kenya.
Speaking during the exercise, Major Hillary Pyaban urged residents to continue working closely with security agencies by sharing timely information that would support ongoing efforts to enhance peace and combat insecurity in the region. He noted that cooperation between local communities and security personnel remains essential in promoting both human security and regional stability.
Community members, led by Bojiyare Chief Wardere Khahiye, expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, describing it as a lifesaving response during one of the area’s most difficult periods. They noted that the prolonged drought had severely reduced available water sources, leaving families vulnerable and in urgent need of assistance. The residents also pledged to continue supporting security agencies through information sharing aimed at fostering peace and stability.
The Bojiyare mission is part of a series of humanitarian operations undertaken by the Kenya Defence Forces in drought-affected parts of Wajir County, where recurring water shortages continue to threaten livelihoods and public health. While the emergency deliveries have provided much-needed short-term relief, they also highlight the urgent need for sustainable investments in water infrastructure and climate resilience to address the region’s recurring water crises.
